Why Go
A year-round, sustainable, art-in-nature destination dedicated to the research, exhibition, education, and documentation of contemporary visual arts. The cultural attraction is a 20-acre botanic park in a rehabilitated wetland and wood sanctuary on the edge of Calgary's city limits. Artists and founders Katie Ohe and the late Harry Kiyooka, have influenced the art community across Canada as educators, curators, collectors, mentors, activists, and philanthropists. Harry and Katie’s entire personal ‘oeuvre’ of paintings and sculptures and their extensive and valuable international and Canadian contemporary art collection form the core of the artwork displayed at the Centre. Katie Ohe is one of Canada's leading female sculptors. In the Sculpture Park see monumental pieces by artists Ray Arnatt, Roy Leadbeater, Michael Sandle (British), Charles Robert Boyce, Alex Caldwell, and Katie Ohe, just to name a few.
What's Great
One of Calgary's top ten nature parks to enjoy and experience is about connecting the community through nature. In addition to over 20 sculptures in the park, including a large collection of monumental-scale contemporary works by local and international artists, see the new installation of Katie Ohe’s Doodle 4. Doodle 4 is her first monumental piece created specifically for the KOAC Sculpture Park. Guests are invited to book an appointment for a private guided tour of the Sculpture Park and sanctuary. Families enjoy seeing and learning about local contemporary art in nature. An ideal health and wellness way to see art through a cultural lens. See the natural landscape on the Elbow Valley escarpment with over 400 native shrubs and flora species. Visit the website for upcoming events.
Local Tip:
The centre is dedicated to the preservation of the surrounding environment. Guests are welcome to freely drop by and walk the park Thursday to Sunday. Free onsite parking.
